The Oura Ring 5 Is Smaller, With Longer Battery Life, and New Software Features

Every day for more than four years, I’ve worn an Oura Ring. It provides the best, most comprehensive health tracking information on the market, with more accurate step counting than any other ring, longer battery life than an Apple Watch, no distracting screen, and a more compact, less expensive package than a WHOOP. Its software is also better than any competitor, and each generation has made leaps in improvement. The Oura Ring 3 was accurate, comfortable, and resilient, but the Oura Ring 4 improved step-count accuracy, added new software features, and smoothed the inside of the ring, making it more comfortable for squeezing activities like strength training.They could have stayed with the Oura Ring 4: it’s still the best option on the market, and the ceramic version — which I’ve been wearing the white version of since its release — only came out in October 2025. But the company is going public soon, and so, ahead of schedule, they have released the fifth generation. And it promises to be one of Oura’s biggest generational changes yet.Oura Ring 5. At 6.09 mm wide and 2.28 mm thick, it’s roughly 40 percent smaller by volume than the Ring 4 — and even more so than the bulkier Ceramic — but has an improved sensor suite, with more powerful LEDs and stronger battery life. Oura says the Ring 5 will last up to 9 days on a charge — but active users have always found the rings to underperform their advertised ratings, so it’ll be down to testing to see if they live up to the claim. It’s now barely bigger than a wedding ring, and the only downsides compared to the 4, on paper, are the reduced sizing range — which will still fit most people — and a starting price of $399 in black or silver, up from $349 on the Oura Ring 4. If you get the gold, deep rose, brushed silver, or stealth finishes, the price is $499, and an optional $99 portable charging case is also available.
