FLIGHTS

NEW YEAR’S DELIGHTS

Travel to Israel increases around the High Holy Days, so El Al Airlines has added 13 nonstop flights between New York City and Tel Aviv from September 12 to October 10, in addition to its regular schedule of 17 weekly flights on that route. To get travelers into the holiday mood, the airline will be serving its special “Golda Meir” honey cake during this period; it will also offer baked apples and honey in first class.

EVENTS

FARM-FRESH DINNER

On September 26, Outstanding in the Field, a California-based farm dinner series, will hold a unique outdoor dinner at the Quail Hill Community Farm in Amagansett. Guests will take a tour of the farm with owner Scott Chaskey and then sit down to a multi-course meal designed to showcase the fall harvest prepared by chef Seth Caswell of East Hampton’s famous Nick & Toni’s restaurant. Arthur Ludlow of Mecox Bay Dairy will provide farmstead cheeses for the meal, and Christopher Tracy of Channing Daughters Winery will offer wines paired with each course.

Now in its fifth season, the Outstanding in the Field series was designed to reconnect diners to the land where their food comes from. Other upcoming dinners in the Northeast include one October 2 at the Blue Heron Farm on Seneca Lake, N.Y., and another October 3 at the Old Chatham Sheepherding Farm in the Berkshires. The dinner costs $130 a person.

RESORTS

UNSPOILED PARADISE

Those who can’t stand visiting islands overrun with tourists in the wintertime will welcome the opening of Islas Secas, a new private island eco-resort, this December. The resort includes 16 virtually untouched islands in the Pacific Ocean, located 12 miles off the coast of Panama. Only one of the islands has accommodations – six double-occupancy ocean-view bungalows; the other islands, protected eco-reserves which can be reached by kayak or boat, can be explored by the resort’s guests. The island with accommodations also includes a gourmet restaurant and spa.

The resort, which opens December 18, will be open each year from December through April, during the dry season. Prices range from $299 to $499 per person, per night, with a minimum stay of four nights.
