Trump Will Use State of the Union To Get the Economic Word Out to America

When I sat down with President Trump last week, he acknowledged that he had to do more to get the word out regarding the booming economy.Certainly, he will use the State of the Union message on Tuesday to sell the Trump boom, and the numbers are on his side.Stock markets are hovering near record highs. And roughly 135 million Americans are benefiting. Bet you didn’t know that household net wealth in this country is around $180 trillion. That’s right, $180 trillion.Those are all your stocks, bonds, houses, bank accounts, brokerage, and 401Ks and IRAs, less your liabilities.Publicly held federal debt is $30 trillion, and that’s way too high, but it is only a small fraction of household wealth.And by the way, as the Committee to Unleash Prosperity has shown, a 3.5 percent long-term growth rate, along with a flatline for current federal spending, will actually eliminate the federal debt in roughly twenty to thirty years. And I think 3.5 percent growth is very doable.We probably have too much credit card debt, but at $1.2 trillion, it’s just a tiny fraction of overall household wealth. This is a prosperous country.Meanwhile, Mr. Trump can talk about affordability because guess what? take home pay is on the rise. Middle-class working folks are now $1,400 ahead of inflation.Plus, various tax refunds for tips, overtime pay, and seniors could probably get to $2,400 for middle-class folks, which is already a $3,800 pay raise.Meanwhile, the inflation rate has come back down to barely more than 2 percent. And think of this, key grocery prices are starting to fall all over the place.Ace financial journalist John Carney has shown that year-over-year the price of eggs is down 34 percent, unleaded gasoline is down 8 percent, butter is down 5 percent, fresh fruit is down 3 percent, tomatoes are down 2.5 percent, potatoes are down 2.3 percent, dairy products down almost 1 percent, and peanut butter and rice are also down.And that’s not all, smart phone prices down nearly 11 percent year-over-year, admission to sporting events is down by more than 6 percent, TVs cost nearly 5 percent less, toys cost 2.5 percent less, health insurance is more than 2 percent down, and on and on.What’s happening here is a supply-side boom, where Mr. Trump’s tax cuts and deregulation are producing more goods, and with a steady money supply, that means lower prices.Add to that “drill, baby, drill,” lowering energy prices, and I’ll bet that this year’s CPI will be come in less than 1 percent.That, plus the One Big Beautiful Bill’s 100 percent immediate depreciation, has created a phenomenal business investment boom, which is creating private sector jobs, as strong wages are paid for by an incredible productivity boom.Now, there’s plenty more to talk about, but the basic point is this: the Trump boom has beaten all of the pessimists and Nobel prize winners who have been completely wrong.You can bet Mr. Trump will use the State of the Union to get the economic word out to the entire country.From Mr. Kudlow’s broadcast on Fox Business Network.
