If you’re an Alice, please stand up: That’s the call Lincoln Center is putting out to music fans who are lucky enough to have the name Alice (or a variation of Alice). On February 28 between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., Lincoln Center is presenting “Calling All Alices,” offering Alices the chance to receive a free pair of tickets to any Alice Tully Hall music event in April. Additionally, Alices or friends of the hall can enter a raffle to win one of five pairs of tickets to “Good Night Alice,” a benefit event on April 30 that will serve as a curtain-closer for the hall, which will then temporarily close to undergo an 18-month renovation. It will reopen in time for the center’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Fans of the hall’s programming can choose from events including performances by various groups associated with the Juilliard School, and a performance of Nicholas Maw’s “Roman Canticle” by mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The “Good Night Alice” benefit event will be hosted by a former NBC broadcaster, Tom Brokaw, and will feature performers including Wynton Marsalis, Audra McDonald, Philip Glass, and Laurie Anderson. The “Alice” behind the hall’s name was a singer-turned-philanthropist who donated money for a chamber music hall at Lincoln Center in 1969.
