Building and alteration permits issued between January and October 31 are up 3.5% compared to the same period in 2006, the Department of Buildings said yesterday. The figures are part of the department’s annual safety report card, which found that accidents on high-rise construction sites increased to 42 from 23 and accidents on low-rise construction dropped to 51 from 66, when comparing the first 10 months of 2007 to the first 10 months of 2006. Construction-related fatalities decreased to 8 from 14, and construction-related injuries remained almost constant, dropping to 104 from 105.
