ROOFS UP Tanning on the beach is one way to enjoy summer. For others, a lecture series on classical gardens and architecture in exotic places is just the ticket. Those who prefer the latter can partake in the lecture series presented by the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America in association with Sotheby’s Institute of Art. The architecture of Vizcaya, an American villa of the Gilded Age, is the topic of the first talk by the Meyerson Professor of Urbanism at the University of Pennsylvania, Witold Rybczynski (tonight). Roderic Blackburn speaks next on the evolution of the Dutch house in America (June 29), followed by the curator of Asian Export Art at the Peabody Essex Museum, William Sargent, discussing Anglo-Chinese gardens (Wednesday, July 13). All events: 6 p.m. reception, 6:30 p.m. lecture, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, 1334 York Ave. at 72nd Street, 212-730-9646 ext. 108, $25 for each lecture or $60 for the series.
