BENDED KNEE

The drawings and paintings on display in ‘Having Trouble to Pray’ illustrate Peruvian artist Moico Yaker’s commitment to prayer even at its most difficult. The artworks are his attempts to portray on paper the prayers that he cannot physically offer. The protagonist of the series encounters difficulties at every turn; he is carried away by butterflies, balances on a seal, and leans exhausted against a tree. At far left is ‘Having Trouble to Pray 6’ (2002) and at left is ‘Having Trouble to Pray 26’ (2002).
