SACRED ART The new group exhibit “Sacred Wild,” curated by critic and artist Suzi Gablik, opens tonight with a reception featuring brief presentations by the participating artists. The show explores how contemporary artists can explore spirituality without leaning on “organized religious thought.” The six artists hail from Iowa,Virginia, and Illinois. SENSE AND SENSIBILITY A new group show of sound works explores the phenomenon of synesthesia, in which experiences in one sense prompt other senses to react – for example, when a smell produces visualizations of a color. “What Sound Does a Color Make?” asks how synesthesia is connected to contemporary audiovisual art, which forces viewers to use more than one sense in interpretation.The show opens tonight with a performance and discussion by several of the represented artists, including Stephen Vitiello, Thom Kubli, and Kurt Hentschlanger. CHIC SHOW The first American solo show of works by Pierre Soulages in more than 30 years features 16 abstract works on paper made with walnut stain and gouache.
