SUBWAY SKETCHES Laura Cantor, who has worked as a New York City Transit subway car inspector for the past 23 years, displays pastel and charcoal drawings, oil paintings, and Linotype prints of the subway as part of the exhibit “Upon Closer Inspection.” Through April 9, Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, noon-5 p.m., New York Transit Museum, corner of Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn Heights, 718-694-1600, $5 general, $3 seniors and children, members free.
GLOBAL VIEW A retrospective of the work of Indian-born artist Zarina Hashmi, which closes this week, features work from 1977 to the present. In the series “Cities,” she pays homage to nine cities that have suffered violence in recent years, including Beirut, Kabul, Baghdad, and New York. CITY LIGHTS George Nick’s oil paintings depicting quiet scenes in cities including Boston, Paris, and Rome are on display through Friday in an exhibit of his new work. INSIDE VOICES Brooklyn artist K.K. Kozik pictures people inside their “personal havens” as part of his new series of paintings, “Shelter.” The gallery’s outdoor space features work by South Korean-born artist Sook Jin Jo.
