IN PRAISE OF PRINT Maureen Mullarkey’s collage-reliefs go on display today in “Gutenberg Elegies.” She uses found books, book covers, frontspieces, end papers, and inscriptions to create what she calls “small acts of praise for the physical properties of books in a digital age.” Ms. Mullarkey contributes art criticism to The New York Sun. SHARED INSPIRATION Recent paintings by Kate Lehman and Sarah Lamb are on display at Spanierman Gallery. Both painters offer still lifes in the tradition of 18th-century French painter Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin, along with landscapes, figures, and interiors. VINES AND BIRDS New paintings and works on paper by Anju Dodiya are on display at Bose Pacia, a gallery specializing in contemporary South Asian art. The works on view were inspired by sources including Gujarati folktales, Japanese prints, and Greek myths. The exhibit includes the charcoal-and-watercolor series “Secret Garden,” which portrays heads sprouting leaves and vines that threaten to choke them. Ms. Dodiya was born in Mumbai, India, where she currently lives and works.
