YIVO MEMORIES
Composer Michael Tilson Thomas serves as host to a benefit concert for the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, which is celebrating its 80th year. His piece “The Thomashefskys: Music and Memories of a Life in the Yiddish Theater,” which makes its premiere, is a tribute to his grandparents, Boris and Bessie Thomashefsky, who were pioneers of the early Yiddish Theater. Judy Kaye and Debra Winger are among the evening’s performers in front of audience members including Beverly Sills, Lily Safra, and Vera Stern. NEW YORK LEGENDS
CBS anchor Dana Tyler emcees a benefit for the Pratt Legends Scholarship. The gala’s honorees include theater director and designer Robert Wilson, artist James Rosenquist, jewelry designer Kenneth Jay Lane, fashion designer Cathy Hardwick, and architect Helmut Jahn.
