PHOTO FINISH Dominic Smith reads from his book “The Mercury Visions of Louis Daguerre” (Atria), a novel based on the life of the photography innovator. In 1847, after a decade of using poisonous mercury vapors to treat his daguerreotypes, Daguerre is plagued by delusions. Believing that the world will end within one year, he makes a “Doomsday List” of 10 subjects he must photograph before the final day.
