MUSEUM MILES
During Spring Break for New York City public schools, many Lower Manhattan museums offer free admission to children. Participants include the New York City Police Museum (100 Old Slip, between Water and South streets, 212-480-3100), the South Street Seaport Museum (12 Fulton St. at Front Street, 212-748-8600), and the Fraunces Tavern Museum (54 Pearl St. at Broad Street, 212-425-1778). CELEBRATE THE EARTH
Families can celebrate Earth Day by picnicking in Central Park and enjoying live music, arts and crafts, and tours led by the Central Park Conservancy. Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Central Park Great Hill, 106th Street and Central Park West, free. Rain date: Sunday.
SOUTHERN COMFORT
Dorothy Carter reads from her children’s book “Grandma’s General Store” (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). The picture book follows a black brother and sister living in Florida with their grandmother during the Great Depression.
