THAI TIMES
A festival of contemporary Thai films, “Thai Takes 2,” kicks off with “My Girl,” a collaboration between six young directors. After the screening, producer Yong yoot Thongkongtoon discusses the film, which is set in a Thai village during the 1970s. ‘LAUGH’ OUT LOUD
An original orchestral score performed by the ensemble Octuor de France accompanies a screening of Paul Leni’s 1928 silent film “The Man Who Laughs.” The Victor Hugo novel “L’Homme qui rit,” about a man whose face is disfigured by a permanently frozen smile, inspired the film. STONE-COLD TRAIL
Mark Moskowitz’s “Stone Reader” (2002) follows a year-long search for Dow Mossman, the author of a little-known 1972 novel that affected the filmmaker deeply. In his search for Mr. Mossman, who never published another book, Mr. Moskowitz spoke with the editor of “Catch-22,” Robert Gottlieb; the head of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Frank Conroy, and critic Leslie Fiedler. After a screening, Mr. Moskowitz discusses lost books and one-book authors with an executive editor at W.W. Norton, Bob Weil. “Stone Reader” is Mr. Moskowitz’s first feature – will he follow Mr. Mossman’s precedent and make it his last?
