HAPPY CHANUKAH “Good for the Jews” is a band formed by author Rob Tannenbaum: The band performs Chanukah songs during a two-night stand featuring musicians Lisa Loeb and Tammy Faye Starlite, and comedian Todd Barry. CRESCENT CITY CHRISTMAS Jazz at Lincoln Center presents “Red Hot Holiday Stomp: Wynton Marsalis & Friends,” a performance of holiday classics with a “New Orleans bump.” The artistic director of JALC, Mr. Marsalis, leads an ensemble that includes drummer Herlin Riley and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon. A CAROL ON THE RADIO Strand Bookstore and the classical music station WQXR present a reading of the Charles Dickens story “A Christmas Carol.” Radio announcers Jeff Spurgeon, Annie Bergen, and Elliott Forrest are among featured readers. A KING WITHOUT A CROWN As part of the “Festival of Lights” concert series, singer Matisyahu performs his brand of “Hasidic beatbox reggae.” Singer Ben Kweller, rapper Mr. Lif, and the band John Brown’s Body are featured performers. OH, HOLY NIGHT The Lehman Center for the Performing Arts presents the Bronx Opera Chorus and the Orchestra of the Bronx, which perform seasonal repertoire including Handel’s majestic “Messiah.” The conductor is Michael Spierman. Featured performers include mezzo soprano Elizabeth Shannon and tenor Jeffrey Lavar. DUELING MESSIAHS As part of its “An Early Tour of Europe” series, Trinity Choir performs Handel’s “Messiah,” written by the composer in three weeks in 1741. CHANUKAH CHANTS Congregation Rodeph Shalom presents its annual “Festival of Choirs,”a concert featuring individual musicians and adult and children’s Jewish choirs from across the city. Songs include “Bring on the Light” and “Raise Up the Menorah.” Cantor Rebecca Garfein is the conductor of the concert. CHRISTMAS CHEER The Guggenheim Museum continues its holiday tradition of family concerts with a two-night performance by the Graham Ashton Brass Ensemble and the Vox Vocal Ensemble. The groups perform traditional and contemporary classics. The conductor for the evening is George Steel. WINTER CELEBRATION “Bringing in the Seasons: A Spiritual Happening” is designed to celebrate the beginning of Chanukah and the winter solstice. Musicians and dancers include Shoshana Jedwab, Caroline Kohles, and Rabbi Nachum Kaunfer. Rabbi Jill Hammer also tells Chanukah legends.
