HANDSOME BOYS
Sandwiched in the midst of seven nights of almost sold-out shows by the 1980s duo Erasure, the Handsome Boy Modeling School plays an evening of goofy, conceptual hip-hop and soul music. The band is the brainchild of producers Prince Paul and Dan “The Automator” Nakamura (tomorrow). Also at Irving Plaza this week, English hip-hop phenomenon Dizzee Rascal performs (Saturday). Both shows: 8 p.m. doors open, 9 p.m. concert, Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place at 15th Street, 212-777-6800, $22.50.
BIG TIME
Former “Saturday Night Live” star Ana Gasteyer is the guest performer at a concert by unpredictable jazz singer Julian Fleisher and his “Rather Big Band.” Thursday, 7:30 p.m., World Financial Center, Winter Garden, 220 Vesey St. at the West Side Highway, 212-945-2600, free.
COMPLEX CONCERT
The complete song cycle of English composer Brian Ferneyhough’s “Carceri d’Invenzione” receives its American premiere. Ensemble 21 performs the piece, which is a series of pieces for small orchestra and soloists. Mr. Ferneyhough’s work is known for its complexity, and “Carceri d’Invenzione,” inspired by engravings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, is said to be his most intricate. Michael Adelson and Alan Pierson conduct the ensemble, featuring soloists soprano Tony Arnold, piccolo player David Fedele, flutist Mario Caroli, and violinist Mark Menzies. Friday, 7 p.m. talk, 8 p.m. concert, Columbia University, Miller Theatre, 2960 Broadway at 116th Street, 212-854-7799, $20 general, $12 students.
