THREE FROM MC5, TWICE Three of the original members of MC5 – guitarist Wayne Kramer, drummer Dennis Thompson, and bassist Michael Davis – perform their seminal 1968 album “Kick Out the Jams” in its entirety. Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses, Mark Arm of Mudhoney, Lisa Kekaula of Basement Jaxx, and other guests join in. (Friday, 8 p.m. doors open, 9 p.m. concert, Northsix, 66 N. 6th St., between Wythe and Kent avenues, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-599-5103, $25.) The next night, Messrs. Kramer, Thompson, and Davis play Central Park’s SummerStage. The Sun Ra Arkestra, for whom the original MC5 once opened, are also on the bill. Since Sun Ra’s death in 1993, the avant-garde jazz troupe has been led by saxophonist Marshall Allen, who has kept the Arkestra on an experimental path. The tabla player Suphala performs and Paul Miller, aka D.J. Spooky, who organized the event, kicks off the day with a class on the art of turntablism. FOLK DUO A coffeehouse and bookstore plays host to the guitar and harmonica duo Bliggins and Goines, whose songs are inspired by the Sourlands region of New Jersey. Saturday, 8 p.m., Vox Pop, 1022 Cortelyou Rd. at Stratford Road, Flatbush, Brooklyn, 718-940-2084, $5 sliding scale.
MISSA LINK The St. Bartholomew’s Church Choir performs American composer James Buonemani’s “Missa Miamiensis” (1994), written for choir, organ, piano, soprano saxophone, and percussion. TUNES OF AFRICA Singer-songwriter Thomas Mapfumo and his band, the Blacks Unlimited, kick off the daylong African Festival. Other performances include Senegalese hip-hop artists Gokh-Bi System, Cape Verdian singer Maria de Barros, and West African music from Kakande and Alain Nkossi Konda. MOZART AND HAYDN Donald Runnicles conducts his Orchestra of St. Luke’s an all-Mozart and -Haydn concert featuring Peter Serkin on piano. The program includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24, Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 102. CANTATA, ET CETERA Bach Vespers presents its annual commemoration of Johann Sebastian Bach, near the anniversary of his death on July 28, 1750.
