SAXOPHONE AND SPIRAL The Brooklyn Saxophone Quartet performs a repertoire of original tunes, Pacific-Asian folk songs, and radically reworked versions of standards. Ehran Elisha’s Spiral octet, which features three trumpets, three strings, a piano and drums, opens the show. MERRY MCGARRIGLES Folk singers Kate and Anna McGarrigle perform a Christmas concert with guests including Emmylou Harris, Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, and Teddy Thompson.The performance is part of the series Nonesuch at Carnegie. Tonight, 8 p.m., Carnegie Hall, Isaac Stern Auditorium, 881 Seventh Ave. at 57th Street, 212-247-7800, $20-$69.


FIVE YEARS OF SONGS The Songwriter’s Beat, a monthly acoustic showcase for songwriters, celebrates its fifth anniversary with performances by cellist Stephanie Winters, Songs of Love founder John Beltzer, and Songwriter’s Beat founder Valerie Ghent, among others. Tonight, 8:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Cafe, 29 Cornelia Street between West 4th and Bleecker streets, 212-989-9319, $5 plus $6 minimum.


SEPHARDIC SOUNDS The New York Sephardic Music Festival welcomes the Sara Aroeste Band, which fuses Latino folk music with contemporary sounds (8 p.m.); Pharaoh’s Daughter, which blends Jewish spiritual music with world-beat sounds (9 p.m.), and Smadar, a six-piece group composed of musicians from Turkey, France, Bulgaria, and Israel performing music in Spanish, Greek, Arabic, and Hebrew (10 p.m.).
