AND THE WINNER IS…The Writing Program of the New School will host the National Book Critics Circle Annual Awards. Finalists – including E.L. Doctorow, Mary Gaitskill, and William Vollmann – will read short excerpts from their books tonight (6 p.m., $5). Tomorrow, the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony followed by a reception (6 p.m., free ceremony, $40 reception). LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON? Norman Mailer and his son, John Buffalo Mailer, participate in an intergenerational conversation on what it means to live in America today. They are the authors of the new book “The Big Empty: A Dialogue on Politics, Sex, God, Boxing, Morality, Myth, Poker, and Bad Conscience in America” (Nation Books). Dotson Rader moderates the talk.
