VAN BUREN’S LEGACY Ted Widmer discusses the life of Martin Van Buren, the first president born after independence and the only Dutch-speaking American president. Mr. Widmer is the author of “Martin Van Buren,” a part of “The American Presidents” (Times Books) series of biographies. He will assume the directorship of the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University in July. SMITH AND SCULPTURE In connection with the exhibition “David Smith: A Centennial,” the Sackler Center for Arts Education presents a panel discussion on Smith and his impact on sculpture.
