CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN Frank Ventura directs a fully staged workshop of the new musical “Six of One,” which follows six New York City friends sorting out their attempts to find love. The musical, with music by Paul Loesel and book and lyrics by Scott Burkell,was developed in CAP21’s Barbara Wolff Monday Night Reading Series. WAR AND ‘WOOD’ Actor Samuel Calderon was playing a soldier in a play at the Haifa Theater in Israel when the Yom Kippur War broke out in 1973. He was soon drafted to fight, where he befriended a soldier who had the same name as the character he had portrayed onstage. It took Mr. Calderon two decades to feel comfortable sharing his experiences. The result is “Knock on Wood,” which has its American premiere this week. Ruth Dytches directs.
