SPIRITUALISM ONSTAGE In John Chatter ton’s play “Beyond the Veil,” set in Victorian England, an agnostic scientist begins to believe in an afterlife after he meets a medium who accurately predicts a personal tragedy. Soon the scientist begins a series of experiments to prove the validity of spiritualism. Mr. Chatterton directs his own play, loosely based on the life of Sir William Crookes, who performed extensive experiments with a psychic named Florence Cooke.
