GOWANUS STROLL Matt Postal conducts a walking tour that explores the wide banks of Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal. Highlights include the Carroll Gardens Historic District, a brownstone enclave that boasts an unusual street plan, as well as stops at sites associated with Italian culture, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the American Revolution. Attendees will also cross the canal on one of the oldest retractable bridges in America. The tour is presented by the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment. Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., meet at the corner of Smith and President streets, Brooklyn, 718-788-8500 ext. 208, $11 general, $9 members, $8 seniors and students.
REBEL WALK Bowery and Canal Walking Tours presents a “Patriots and Rebels” walking tour of Lower Manhattan, focused on New York’s contributions to the American Revolution and the effects of the British occupation on the city. Saturday, 2 p.m., meet in front of Bowling Green Park, Bowling Green and Broadway, 212-979-8013, $12 general, $10 seniors and students.
