The Art and Antique Dealers League of America is the country’s oldest principal fine arts and antiques organization, a nonprofit group with about 100 carefully vetted member galleries.
Tonight the league launches its third Connoisseur’s Antiques Fair, a four-day show at the Gramercy Park Armory showcasing the wares of 54 league members.
Important pieces at the fair will include a massive French Louis XIV commode attributed to Thomas Hache, four 18th-century game tables with neoclassic and Milanese intarsia work, an early 14th-century Belgian marble sculpture of St. Andrew, and an 18th-century Japanese Buddhist sculpture in wood.
The fair opens tonight with a benefit preview and gala to support the Pierpont Morgan Library. There will also be a presentation on view during the fair highlighting the library’s history and collection of seals, tablets, drawings, prints, and manuscripts.
Connoisseur’s Antiques Fair, through November 22 at the Gramercy Park Armory, Lexington Avenue at 26th Street, 212-532-1516, www.artantiquedealersleague.com. Admission is $15.
