WASHINGTON — Rep. Anthony Weiner may be eyeing City Hall, but he’s been getting some face time on national television — on C-SPAN, at least. The congressman, who represents parts of Brooklyn and Queens, wielded the gavel yesterday for 30 minutes in the House of Representatives when the chamber narrowly approved a $2.9 trillion Democratic budget. He also chaired the beginning of the House debate on Iraq war funding. Mr. Weiner is known for being well-versed in House rules, and he is said to be one of a few members the Democratic leadership relies on to handle dicey votes that could be upended by parliamentary maneuvers. He said he was “honored” to be called on by the speaker, Rep. Nancy Pelosi. “Opening the Iraq debate and closing the budget consideration, it’s been an exciting 100 days,” Mr. Weiner said.
