A welder working on a barge docked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard died yesterday after he fell 50 feet into the vessel’s hull, police said.

Arturo Medina, 36, of Brooklyn, toppled off a ladder aboard the ship and into a manhole around 10:30 a.m., officials said. Rescue workers used a “high angle rescue,” or pulley system, to retrieve him but he was unconscious when they pulled him up 45 minutes later.

Police said Medina was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he died a short time later.
