The chairman of the City Council’s general welfare committee, Bill de Blasio, is calling on the Administration for Children’s Services to provide up-to-date data on their child protection practices and prepare a report about the progress the agency has made over the last 18 months for a committee hearing he plans to hold on September 20.
On August 9, the city’s Department of Investigation issued a 141-page report detailing the cases of 11 children who died and one who nearly drowned while their families were being monitored by the agency. Mr. de Blasio noted that the majority of the report focused on the agency’s practices 18 months ago.
