An elderly woman was hit and killed by a car late Wednesday night as she was crossing a street on the Lower East Side, police officials said.
Josephine Laplaca, an 82-year-old neighborhood resident, was walking southbound on Allen Street when a sports-utility vehicle struck her as she attempted to cross Delancey Street at about 11 p.m., police said.
The driver of the vehicle, who police did not identify, remained at the scene of the accident and is not believed to have committed a crime, police said.
