Two fatal fires in Harlem and the Bronx yesterday morning left two people dead, four people seriously injured, and more than a dozen firefighters with minor injuries.
The first fire broke out at around 5:40 a.m. in an abandoned building at 79 W. 127th St., according to police and fire officials.
Police said one man, whom they had not been able to identify because he was homeless, had died in the fire. A 42-year-old man was taken to Harlem Hospital Center in serious condition, with burns on his arms and legs.
The second fire, in a six-story apartment building at 1317 West Farms Rd., began at 10:55 a.m., fire officials said. One person died in the fire and three civilians were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with serious injuries. A total of 14 firefighters who responded to the fires had minor injuries.
