Don Sinisi, 55, who lives in Bensonhurst, works as a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Q. What do you think about “The Gates”?

A. I think they are fantastic. In the ’60s, we called them happenings. … And it has no bearing on any kind of artistic statement. It is just to put a smile on people’s faces.

How do you see people reacting to “The Gates”?

It is a very typical New York reaction. New Yorkers refuse to be impressed. They refuse to admit that they are impressed.

Do you think the installation has helped build a sense of community among New Yorkers?

It is another way of bring people together with a common topic of conversation – love it or hate it. It has brought people into the neighborhood to see the museums.

Where is the best place to view “The Gates”?

I think someone with a penthouse west of Central Park would have a really good view, if it is not too high – let’s say four or five stories up. And the light would be dramatic this time of the year from the east. Or Belvedere Castle and get the panoramic view in the center. It is clear and there aren’t too many trees and they give you a sense of the sinuous, winding paths of the park. I mean, the paths in the park make this installation.

How is the view from the roof garden?

The museum has been packed since Saturday. People are trying to get upstairs to the roof, which is great, but it is really a better panorama of New York City than a view of “The Gates.”
