Yesterday’s heavy rainfall pushed the city’s July rain total well above the average — over 2 inches fell in Central Park, elevating the total to six inches up from the month’s 4.62-inch average, according to a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The storm, which primarily hit New England, is not typical for the season, the meteorologist, Joe Pollina, said. “Usually we see this in the late fall and winter months. This is more or less a weak Nor’easter. These things don’t develop usually around now,” he said. The heaviest bulk of yesterday’s rain will move out by today while the storm moves inland and weakens, Mr. Pollina said.
