As the search for a new state comptroller begins in Albany, an assemblyman from Upper Manhattan will introduce legislation today that would create an appointed commission to monitor the office.
The proposed legislation would create an 11-person committee, selected by the governor and state officials, who would oversee the comptroller’s investments.
“Few governmental entities have a greater potential to serve as an economic engine,” the assemblyman who will introduce the legislation, Adriano Espaillat, said yesterday.
Mr. Espaillat said about 30 assemblymen and a Republican state senator are backing the legislation.
