Police are investigating how the 6-year-old son of the president of one of the world’s largest hedge funds drowned in his family’s pool.

Zachary Cohn, the son of the president of SAC Capital, Brian Cohn, drowned on Saturday at about 6 p.m. in Greenwich, Conn., after getting stuck in the drain of his pool, local authorities said.

“We’re investigating the steps that led to this tragic accident,” Lieutenant Daniel Allen of the Greenwich Police Department said.

As part of the investigation, police were checking the pool’s drainage equipment, authorities told the Greenwich Time.

Although Greenwich police didn’t identify Mr. Cohn or his wife, Karen Cohn, they said the boy’s parents and two employees were at the home at 176 Taconic Road at the time of the incident. An obituary that ran in the Greenwich Time yesterday identified Mr. and Mrs. Cohn as the victim’s parents.

As president of SAC Capital, which is headed by billionaire Steven Cohen, Mr. Cohn assists in running one of the world’s most successful hedge funds, with about $13 billion in assets.

Police were notified of the Cohn family’s emergency on Saturday at about 6:10 p.m., when a 911 call informed them that a young boy was stuck in the drain of a pool at the family’s residence.

When police arrived, Cohn had been removed from the pool. Responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the young boy, but he was pronounced dead at about 7:30 p.m. at Greenwich Hospital.

The Greenwich Police Department is awaiting results from the investigation to determine if any of the pool equipment was faulty. “Zachary was an accomplished swimmer, computer wizard, avid photographer at the age of 6. Zachary loved life and lived his short life to the fullest,” his obituary read.

Cohn’s funeral will be held today at Temple Sholom in Greenwich.
