After an 11th bank was robbed this weekend, investigators are ramping up their search for a suspect in a bank heist spree that has lasted more than a year, police officials said.
The suspect, whom police have not identified, is believed to have held up eight banks in Midtown Manhattan, one in Chinatown, one in the Baychester section of the Bronx, and a Commerce Bank on the Upper West Side at about 3 p.m. Saturday, police said.
During the latest robbery, the suspect was caught on camera passing a teller a note that demanded money, one trademark of the robbery pattern, police said. The spree appears to have begun with the Bronx robbery in April 2006, and in the next two months the suspect held up another four banks, police said.
A majority of the suspect’s Midtown robberies have taken place on the East Side, including heists on Madison and Park avenues, police said.
