Port Authority officials reportedly are considering raising tolls at the Hudson River crossings and PATH fares.

Agency officials told the Star-Ledger of Newark the agency plans to request an increase of at least $2 on tolls and are discussing whether to eliminate the $1 E-ZPass discount.

The newspaper says the request would come after next week’s legislative elections.

The increases could raise roughly $300 million a year for long-term construction projects. Any toll hike would require approval from New Jersey’s Governor Corzine and New York’s Governor Spitzer.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Corzine told the newspaper the administration had no comment on the potential toll hike.

The Port Authority last raised Hudson River tolls in 2000.
