Schumer Proposes Import Inspections Tsar

In response to several recent recalls of products imported from China, Sen. Schumer yesterday called for an overhaul of the American inspections system and a new import tsar to oversee the process. Over 60% of imports recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission this year have come from China. Mr. Schumer urged government agencies to perform inspections of foreign manufacturers, including unannounced visits by the Food and Drug Administration.
