Police in New Jersey have caught a suspect who was wanted in connection to an attack on a woman and a police detective in Chinatown last week.
The man, Aleksander Vacaj, 32, had been sought by the New York City Police Department after he allegedly made threats against his former girlfriend, Artenida Gjeli. A few hours later, she was slashed at her workplace, a Chinatown condo building, by two men.
Police have said they are investigating whether the men may have been hired by Mr. Vacaj to attack her.
The police detective, Martin Carrano, who was responding to a complaint Ms. Gjeli had made earlier in the day against Mr. Vacaj, shot both of the men who attacked her, killing one.
Police officials said last night they were waiting for Mr. Vacaj to be transferred to New York City from Garfield. As of yesterday evening, he had not been arrested or charged.
