A public school teacher was arrested yesterday for sending sexually explicit emails to three of his 12-year-old female students, the Queens district attorney’s office said today.
The suspect, Umesh Ramjattan, 22, an English teacher in the Ozone Park section of Queen, allegedly sent out a series of improper emails to female students, including one that contained a picture of him and his girlfriend having sex, the district attorney’s office said.
Mr. Ramjattan, who began his teaching career last month, is being charged with disseminating indecent material to minors and endangering the welfare of a child, the office said.
The victims provided Mr. Ramjattan with their emails addresses so that he could answer questions about their homework assignments, the Queens district attorney, Richard Browne, said in a statement.
Police were notified about Mr. Ramjattan’s indecent emails after a parent of one victim told school authorities, the office said.
If convicted, Mr. Ramjattan faces up to 7 years in prison, the office said.
