Teacher Rape Charge

A Brooklyn middle school teacher was arrested yesterday on charges of raping a 13-year-old boy, police officials said.
Police charged Marcia Amsterdam, 30, a speech teacher at JHS 166 in Brooklyn, with rape in the second degree, sexual abuse in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child. The victim told police the incident occurred in December 2006.
Ms. Amsterdam has been reassigned to an administrative position pending the resolution of the case, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education, Dina Paul Parks, said. Ms. Amsterdam started as a substitute teacher in 1999, and has worked full time for the department since 2000, she said.
