A teenager was fatally stabbed during an after-school brawl and two others were injured at the Union Square Farmer’s Market in Greenwich Village yesterday, police officials said.

The three 17-year-old victims were students at the nearby Washington Irving High School on Irving Place, police said.

Witnesses said two groups of students, one made up of black teenagers and the other of Hispanic teenagers, began fighting at about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Irving Place and East 17th Street. The area is a popular spot for students to congregate after school. A 911 call about the stabbing was made at about 3:45 p.m.

The teenager who was stabbed death wasn’t identified last night because police were notifying his family. He had a deep stab wound to the chest. Paramedics rushed him to St. Vincent’s Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m., police said.

Another teenager was stabbed multiple times in the back. The third victim had a three-inch gash on his head from a blunt object. Both were in stable condition at St. Vincent’s Hospital, police said.

Witnesses said the brawling teenagers swung wooden clubs at each other.

Police initially said they were seeking a 5-foot, 11-inch black male in his late teens or early 20s for his role in the stabbing. He was last seen wearing a red hat and gray jacket, police said. Detectives from the 13th precinct last night were interviewing a number of people connected to the incident, police said.
