The Cursed Ones

What do people of reason and good will call persons who deliberately set out to butcher, maim, damage, scar, hurt, widow and or orphan innocent civilians? In the English language we identify such perpetrators of inhumane acts as mass murderers, serial killers or heinous criminals. On a daily basis we read or hear the same people referred to as insurgent fighters, suicide bombers, or most insulting of all in their illustrious native tongue in Arabic as Shaheeds or “Holy Martyrs.”
Strong resolve and good field intelligence may not suffice in combating and defeating these killers. By identifying and labeling these killers by a term in their own native language we can better confront them and expose them for what and who they really are. These killers to date have orphaned thousands of children in Iraq; they have made widows and widowers of thousands of couples. They have ruined lives and families. They proudly claim credit for heads chopped off, eyes gouged out, arms and limbs blown off. They have transformed humans created in the image of the Almighty, of Allah, into cubes and chunks of meat. They have traumatized and terrorized Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Turkomen, Assyrians, Europeans, and Americans.
Let us in the West, and let our allies in the lands celebrating freedom and human dignity call them Al-Mala’in, “The Damned Cursed Ones.” We have recognized and glorified the contributions of Arab civilization by adopting into non-Arabic languages terms such as algebra, assassins, alcohol and Al-Hambra. Let us now universally adopt the term Al-Mala’in to crown the perpetrators of such crimes, be they in Iraq, the Fertile Crescent, Spain, or New York.
Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Hindus abhor a Mal’un. Fatwas have been issued by Islamic scholars condemning acts carried by the likes of the Mala’in. Let us call them by their newfound name and expose them for who and what they are.
Mala’in are not only despised in this world, they do not have a share in the world to come. Being the damned cursed creatures that they are, they should and must be denied burial among other humans. Their cemeteries are best suited to be located near garbage dumps or near areas that reek of noxious fumes, such as tanneries. Let their names and eternal burial grounds stand as a testimony as to who they were and their eternal legacy.
