‘Rumsfeld Resignation Bodes End of Bush Doctrine’
In regard to Eli Lake’s report on Secretary Rumsfeld’s departure, the appointment of Mr. Gates to the post of secretary of defense will eventually result in a set back to this government’s support for Israel [“Rumsfeld Resignation Bodes End of Bush Doctrine,” Thursday, November 9, 2006].
Wise though I presume them to be, Messrs. Baker, Brzezinski, Scowcroft, and Armitage were no friends of Israel. One need only study the history of the past six administrations.
I hope Mr. Gates, as a longtime bureaucrat who served in each of those administrations, will not dredge up the errors of the past by continuing those unfortunate foreign policies.
Absent any change by popular forces in Syria and Iran, dealing with their current crop of dictators will produce nothing positive for the stability of Iraq and/or the future of Israel and the greater Middle East region.

‘The President Goes on Air With Limbaugh’
In “The President Goes on Air With Limbaugh,” Rush Limbaugh is described as America’s foremost “shock jock” [National, Thursday, November 2, 2006]. Mr. Limbaugh a shock jock? The Sun finally missed editing out an MSM bias. And whatever became of a guy named Howard?

‘Another Middle East War Is on the Horizon’
In regard to John Keegan’s article “Another Middle East War Is on the Horizon” [Foreign, Friday, November 3, 2006], I refer to the following statement: “After all, it [Israel] attacked a American communications ship during the Six-Day War because it objected to America listening in to its most secret signals.”
I would suggest that the attack by Israel was carried out in error. This belief is supported by investigations of our government. In addition, declassified information is in agreement with this conclusion.
