Yesterday afternoon, Fox News commentator and ABC Radio talk-show host Monica Crowley threw a tea party. The venue was the Fifth Avenue outlet of British luxury goods purveyor Asprey. In addition to tea, champagne and $975 cashmere elephants – in Asprey’s signature aubergine hue – were on offer. Ms. Crowley worked the entire room, greeting guests such as the glittering (and persuasive) fund-raiser Georgette Mosbacher, her sister, Lyn Paulsin, CNN political commentator Bill Schneider, President Nixon’s grandson, Christopher Nixon Cox, and historian Douglas Brinkley. Ms. Crowley’s Fox News colleagues, including Eric Shawn and Page Hopkins, showed their support. It was Nancy Collins’s first convention party (she profiled Ms. Mosbacher in the July issue of Harper’s Bazaar). Ms. Mosbacher, on the other hand, had a packed schedule this week. “I’m exhausted,” she said. But her day was just beginning. Ms. Mosbacher was scheduled to appear on “The O’Reilly Factor,” and post-taping, she planned to head to Senator McCain’s party at Cipriani and take a midnight cruise.

The New York delegation knows how to party. At 2 a.m. yesterday, the dance floor at Noche was packed. The upstate cover band, Burners U.K., managed to keep people on their feet – including the executive director of the New York Republican State Committee, William McGahay.
Just a few hours later, Mr. McGahay and other delegates were back at their hotel, the Sheraton, for breakfast with the Wyoming delegation. The special guest: President Bush’s sister, Doro Bush Koch.
In the early evening, delegates met again for a buffet dinner at Bryant Park Grill. There was plenty of food and drink for guests such as the campaign manager for congressional candidate Anton Srdanovic, Kerry Picket; the president of the Metropolitan Republican Club, Lolita Jackson; the president of the Westchester County Women’s Republican Club, Susan Kaufman; and a deputy counsel in the governor’s office, Brooks DeBow.
Back to that cover band, Burners U.K.
They’ll be at the Horseshoe Inn in Saratoga tomorrow night, kicking off the final weekend of the racing season.
