Dining Among Orchids
Imagine “Iron Chef” for floral design, minus the time pressure, and you’ll have an idea of how Tuesday’s New York Botanical Garden’s Orchid Dinner went.
Thirty-one style mavens including Isaac Mizrahi, Dylan Lauren, and Philip Gorrivan created table designs at the Rainbow Room using orchids and a whole bunch of other stuff, from boots to feathers to handbags.
“My challenge is to come up with a group of designers that will send the party over the top,” the event’s decorations chairwoman, and House & Garden’s garden editor, Charlotte Frieze, said.
The designs did just that — and helped raise $645,000 for orchid research and the garden’s annual orchid show, which opens February 23. Please see my blog at www.nysun.com/outandabout for more.
