A party Cole Porter once threw in Venice inspired the Young Friends of Save Venice Red & White Masked Ball Thursday in New York.
The event raised $225,000 to restore a chapel in Venice and drew 300 guests, from rapper Kanye West — whom has not been to Venice — to the vice president of the Harvard Club of Italy, Paolo Conrad Bercah, who loves going to the Venice Film Festival.
“Seeing all of red and white in the grand foyer was spectacular. It was fun and warm and very chic,” the Young Friends chairwoman, Adelina Wong Ettelson, said.
The party celebrated the connections between New York and the concept of “city”. “Venice was the hub of creative energy in her heyday and so is New York City now,” Ms. Wong Ettelson said. “Venice is all over New York.”
