ORLANDO – Playing back-to-back nights has been a struggle for the Knicks this season, at least until last night.

Stephon Marbury scored 34 points and had seven assists as the Knicks enjoyed their best offensive performance of the season and beat the Orlando Magic 119-111.

Kurt Thomas, Allan Houston, and Jerome Williams each scored 15 points for the Knicks, who set season highs in points and assists (29) and tied their season high for field goals made (46).

Steve Francis scored 25 points and Cuttino Mobley added 24 for Orlando, which played for the first time following a four-day layoff and was sluggish from the start.

The Knicks led the entire game, opening up a lead as large as 19 points before Orlando got close with a rally in the fourth quarter. The Magic got as close as 100-94 on a fall-away jumper by rookie Jameer Nelson with 8:41 left, but Marbury made a 3-pointer that keyed a 7-1 run by the Knicks that increased their lead to 107-95.

Marbury had 21 points in the first half when the Knicks jumped out to a 71-54 lead. The Knicks shot 60% from the field in their biggest first half since 1991 against New Jersey. It also was the most points against Orlando in a half this season.

The Knicks scored the first nine points of the game, but really took over in the second quarter when they hit 17-of-25 shots from the field. New York’s guard trio of Marbury, Houston, and Moochie Norris were a combined 11-of-14 from the field in the quarter.
