Lundqvist Notches Fourth Shutout

Henrik Lundqvist earned his fourth shutout of the season, stopping 30 shots, and Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan accounted for the offense in the Rangers’ 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers last night.
Not only has Lundqvist looked incredibly sharp all season, he has shown no signs of fatigue despite playing all 14 games for the Rangers (7-6-1).
New York won its fourth straight to finish a 5-1 homestand while the first-place Flyers (8-5) were shut out for the first time this season. Philadelphia has lost eight of 11 to the Rangers, who fired a season-high 45 shots at Martin Biron.
Most of the action in the first period took place in the Philadelphia end, but Lundqvist turned aside the 11 shots he faced. He stopped 14 more in the second.
Lundqvist, who had only five shutouts all last season when he played 70 games, has allowed more than one goal only once in the past eight games. All his shutouts this season have come in that span and the Rangers have gone 5-2-1.
He preserved his 11th NHL blanking by denying Scottie Upshall on a short-handed breakaway in the second period, and then swept away Joffrey Lupul’s shot with just more than five minutes left in the game.
Jagr, limited by a groin injury Saturday against New Jersey, got the Rangers on the board late in the first on New York’s 22nd and final shot of the period, a season high. Dan Girardi made a nice pass behind his back in the neutral zone to Jagr, who carried the puck into the Philadelphia zone.
He skated to the left circle and, while being guarded by defenseman Braydon Coburn, wristed a shot that sailed over Biron’s glove. It was Jagr’s third goal of the season — and this time it stuck.
