JETS ANNOUNCE FULL COACHING STAFF Bryan Cox was hired as Jets assistant defensive line coach, one of the bigger names on the staff of new coach Eric Mangini, as the Jets finally announced their assistants yesterday. Brian Schottenheimer, son of Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer, will serve as offensive coordinator, and Bob Sutton was promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator. Cox begins his first season as a coach, following a 12-year NFL career that included a stint with the Jets from 1998-2000.
Jimmy Raye rejoined the team following two seasons as the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders. Raye was a Jets assistant from 2002-03. Richie Anderson, who played his first 10 seasons in the NFL as a fullback for the Jets, is assistant receivers coach. The others hired: Brett Bech, assistant strength and conditioning coach; Mike Devlin, assistant offensive line coach; Andy Dickerson, coaches assistant; Jim Herrmann, linebackers coach; Rick Lyle, assistant strength and conditioning coach; Noel Mazzone, wide receivers coach; Jason Michael, offensive quality control; and Tony Wise, offensive line coach.

SYRACUSE DOWNS WEST VIRGINIA Terrence Roberts broke out of a three-game slump with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Syracuse beat no. 14 West Virginia 60-58 last night in Syracuse, N.Y.
It was the fourth loss in five games for West Virginia (18-8, 9-4 Big East), which won its first eight games in the conference. And it was the first victory over a ranked team this season for Syracuse (19-8, 7-6), which had been reeling with five losses in six games but has won three of its last four.
