Runner Fails Gender Test, Loses Medal
An Indian runner who won a silver medal in the women’s 800 meters at the Asian Games failed a gender test and was stripped of the medal.
Shanti Sounderajan, 25, took the gender test in Doha, Qatar, after placing second.
The Indian Olympic Association said Monday it has been told by the Olympic Council of Asia that the 25-year-old runner was disqualified.
“IOA has asked the Athletic Federation of India to return the medal as desired by the Olympic Council of Asia,” the Indian Olympic group said.
The IOA also asked its medical commission to inquire into Sounderajan’s case and report within 10 days.

Strahan Improving, Chance To Play Sunday
Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan might play for the Giants on Sunday in their crucial game against the New Orleans Saints.
Strahan hopes to practice this week for the first time since spraining his right foot against the Houston Texans on November 5. He has missed the last six games, a span that has seen the Giants (7–7) lose five times. Strahan did not speak to the press in the Giants locker room yeserday. Earlier in the day, he said in a weekly paid radio spot that his chances of playing were 50-50. Coach Tom Coughlin and Strahan had a long talk before Sunday’s 36–22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles before deciding to give Strahan another week off.

Bonderman Agrees To $38 Million, 4-Year Contract With Tigers
Pitcher Jeremy Bonderman and the Detroit Tigers agreed yesterday to a $38 million, four-year contract.
Bonderman, who would have been eligible for free agency after the 2008 season, gets $4.5 million in 2007, $8.5 million in 2008 and $12.5 million in each of the following two seasons.
Mariners Acquire Vidro From Washington For Two Prospects
The Mariners acquired Jose Vidro from the Washington Nationals in a deal finalized yesterday, a move Seattle hopes will boost its anemic offense.
Seattle obtained the three-time All-Star along with cash for oft-injured outfielder Chris Snelling and right-hander Emiliano Fruto. The trade was agreed to last week, subject to the players passing physicals.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Jim Harbaugh To Become Stanford Coach
Stanford hired former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh yesterday to take over its struggling football program.
Harbaugh had spent the last three years as head coach at the University of San Diego, a non-scholarship Division IAA program. He led the Toreros to a 29–6 record, winning 27 of his final 29 games at San Diego.
