CLEMENS WORKS OUT AT MINOR LEAGUE COMPLEX
Roger Clemens made 47 throws during a seven-minute session in the outfield on Monday during his first workout at the Yankees’ minor league complex.
Clemens is scheduled for a bullpen session today. Barring any problems, he will make his first minor league start Friday night for Class-A Tampa and could be pitching for the Yankees during the last week of May or first few days of June.
The seven-time Cy Young Award winner spent 4 1/2 hours at the complex. He was on the field for 65 minutes doing running, agility work and fielding drills.
Clemens did not speak at length with reporters, When departing and reporters asked questions, all Clemens said about the workout was that it was “good.”
YANKEES TOPS IN CONNECTICUT, QUINNIPIAC POLL FINDS
Despite a weak start, the Yankees still rule among fans in Connecticut. A Quinnipiac University poll released yesterday found that Connecticut fans prefer the Yankees to the Boston Red Sox 43% to 37%. Another 10% say they are Mets fans.
“The Red Sox may be first in the division but they are second in the hearts of Connecticut fans. These Yankees supporters show they are not fair-weather friends as they stick with the Bombers through tough times,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz.
WORLD SERIES COULD FINISH IN NOVEMBER
Call it the November Classic.
The start of the World Series is being pushed back an extra day to October 24, meaning Game 7 is scheduled for November for the first time. Because of extra offdays during the postseason, a team sweeping the NL championship series would have eight days off before its World Series opener.
Major League Baseball announced last summer that the Series would start on a Tuesday beginning in 2007 under the sport’s new network television contracts. In recent months, the decision was made to push it back an extra day to Wednesday.

McNABB SHOULD BE READY FOR TRAINING CAMP
Barring any setbacks, Donovan McNabb should be ready when the Philadelphia Eagles open training camp in 2 1/2 months.
The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback has rehabbed vigorously since a knee injury ended his season in Week 11 last year. He’s running and throwing and is on course for a complete return when players report to camp on July 27.
“He’s been throwing once a week, and he looks good in that area,” coach Andy Reid said Monday after the team completed its first minicamp. “Progressively, he’ll be given more days where he can get out and throw, and he’ll continue his rehab. The closer we get to camp, he’ll be back to full speed. So, we’re expecting him, when camp starts, to be able to participate.”
FAVRE: I NEVER REALLY WANTED TO BE TRADED
Brett Favre acknowledged his anger over the team’s unwillingness to pull off a trade for wide receiver Randy Moss, but denied yesterday he ever really wanted the Green Bay Packers to trade him.
“I was frustrated a couple weeks back when Randy Moss was traded to New England,” Favre said on the Packers’ Web site. “I never wanted to be traded and I don’t want to be traded. I want to be in Green Bay. I want to finish my career as a Packer.”
It’s an attempt by the three-time MVP to calm the maelstrom that started when he spent Saturday venting about the Packers’ front office in a handful of interviews at his charity golf tournament.
